AVENIDA BRASIL

The show Avenida Brasil offers a fresh perspective on a well-established repertoire of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) and revisits the songs of great composers such as Milton Nascimento, Tom Jobim, Tonico and Tinoco, among others. In the Avenida Brasil show, Luciana Viana and Eddy Andrade aim to explore the diverse poetics associated with Brazilian musical genres such as frevo, samba, bossa nova, and música caipira, while also adding their various influences ranging from jazz to chamber music. The show features a new trio lineup with the participation of percussionist Gabriel Peregrino. Thus, Avenida Brasil is, as Drummond would say, 'a street that passes through many countries,' a journey where we can 'greet our old friends.'

Avenida Brasil made its debut in Campinas - SP, on the stages of Unicamp in Barão Geraldo. This show was born from the restlessness of Luciana Viana and Eddy Andrade to research acclaimed MPB composers and reinterpret some of their works in a unique and unprecedented way. The show has been presented in venues such as SESC – Campinas, Unicamp Convention Center, Central Library of Unicamp, Cultural Center of the Federal University of Goiás – Goiânia, Pró-Musica, and Estação Cultura. Since its debut, it has received numerous accolades for its choice of repertoire, arrangements, and interpretation. Avenida Brasil has been embraced by audiences wherever it goes due to its artistic and political relevance. By presenting a repertoire composed entirely of songs by important figures in Brazilian music, we affirm the uniqueness of this cultural heritage that is our music. It matters to keep the history and work of these authors alive. And it also matters to bring it to the public in a renewed, revisited, and reinterpreted manner through unique arrangements. In the most recent performance of this show at SESC- Campinas, Luciana Viana and Eddy Andrade received a large and attentive audience. The reception of Avenida Brasil has been enthusiastic regarding the quality and originality of the arrangements, the careful selection of repertoire, and the diverse dynamics of the show. Above all, the show's greatest impact on the audience is due to the current Brazilian political context and our assertion, through our music, that it is necessary to know Brazil.
